Califia Farms imported more than 1.25 million pounds of coffee in 2017, and expects to import much more in 2018. The Los Angeles-based company is making its foray into coffee seriously. Working with farmers in Uganda, El Salvador, Colombia, and Ethiopia, Califia plans on building a transparent and fair supply chain for its massive coffee needs.

That’s why Brian Lovejoy, coffee manager of Califia Coffee, and self-described coffee lover, is spending more time visiting coffee farms to determine the company’s capacity for social impact and learning about blockchain technology to improve transparency.
