ECX Transacts Over 4 Billion Birr

Coffee, once again, tops the Ethiopia Commodity Exchange (ECX) floor in value, surpassing sesame which led in volume until late January 2018.

During this period, the ECX has traded a total of 81,830tns of commodities worth 4.2 billion Br. Out of this, 35,472tns of coffee at 2.6 billion Br and 39,269tns of sesame at 1.5 billion Br were traded. In addition to these, oilseeds such as haricot beans and mung beans were traded for 94 million Br and 14.5 million Br, respectively.

Out of the total traded commodities, coffee tops the transaction contributing 43pc in volume and 62pc in value, showing a growth of 1.4pc from last month.

Coffee exports in the international market stood at 16,416tns, while the domestic consumption reached 4,353tns. Likewise, sesame from the monthly aggregate transaction of the commodities covers 48pc and 35pc of volume and value, respectively.

The sesame Humera/Gonder took a 73pc share from the overall traded sesame at 39pc in volume and 110pc in value trade, compared to the same period last year, showing a growth in average selling price by 49pc reaching 3,651 Br this month.
