Excess Rain Set To Shrink Coffee Output

India’s coffee production for 2018-2019 (Oct-Sep) is set to shrink as heavy rains in key growing areas of Hassan, Kodagu, and Chikkamagalur in Karnataka have resulted in fungal diseases such as black-rot.

Hassan has received 78 percent excess rainfall so far in 2018; Chikkamagalur, 51 percent excess rain; and Kodagu, 43 percent excess rain. Karnataka accounts for 70 percent of India’s coffee production.
