Charted: The Countries Importing The Most Coffee Worldwide (1993 – 2013)


American coffee consumption is on an upswing. “The number of Americans drinking a daily cup of coffee is at the highest level since 2012,” reads a 2018 Reuters article.

Farmers in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and California do grow beans; still, the United States also imports a lion-sized quantity. For 30 years, we led the world in coffee imports. It’s perhaps no surprise that coffee-loving countries like Italy and Japan are among the top importers, but others, like the Netherlands, belie their relatively small population size by importing a sizable amount.
