Oakland-based Blue Bottle Coffee — like many homegrown companies before it — is shutting down some of its operations in the Bay Area.
A company spokesperson confirmed all beans that supply West Coast cafes and grocery stores will soon be roasted under one roof in a new facility in Sacramento. The move should be completed by the end of the year.
As for East Coast and international Blue Bottle locations, they’ll still receive their beans from their current suppliers.
Blue Bottle’s roasting facility near Jack London Square has served as the company’s headquarters since 2009, according to Eater, which first reported the move. The location on Webster Street will continue to operate as a cafe after the roasting operation shuts down in 2020.
