Food Network host Alton Brown is toasting Rockford Roasting Company as a great place to grab a pick-me-up.
Brown listed the coffee shop, 206 N. Main St., as one of his eight favorite in the country in the December issue of Food Network Magazine, which hit newsstands Tuesday.
“This is huge,” co-owner Lucretia Ristin said. “It’s an honor. We have already received through our website quite a few inquiries from people who have read the article, so that’s exciting.”
Brown first visited Rockford Roasting in 2015, on a Sunday when the hangout was closed. Ristin said the staff opened up just for him; the shop has since added Sunday hours.
Brown visited again earlier this year, and the staff made him a tea using the cascara, the pulp and skin surrounding the coffee bean.
“These guys were the first to educate me on the other parts of the coffee cherry,” Brown said in the article.
The magazine contacted Rockford Roasting Company afterward to let the business know it would be included in the article.
“It was fun to teach him something,” Ristin said.
