Disposing coffee cups can be a headache. The plastic lining in the cups makes a seemingly paper product difficult to recycle. In 2011, an estimated 2.5 billion coffee cups were thrown away. Given the growing love for coffee, that number is probably higher today. According to some experts, about 8,000 cups are served every minute at Starbucks alone. Only about 1 percent of coffee cups are actually recycled. While some coffee brands are tackling this problem; it’s limited to coffee cups thrown away in their shops.
