Should You Feel Guilty About Eating Chocolate?


MUNCIE, Ind. — Kelsey Timmerman, a freelance journalist based in rural Muncie, likes to remind people where our bananas, chocolate, clothing, coffee and seafood come from.

Pretty much all of it is produced somewhere else around the world by people who live lives much different from our own.

For example, when Timmerman asked to use the bathroom while visiting a family-run cocoa farm in the country of Ivory Coast in West Africa, he was walked out back to a patch of tall grass.

“Are there any snakes in here?” Timmerman asked. “Just spitting cobras,” he was told.
