Colombia’s Coffee Growers Must Focus On Quality To Lock In Profits -Federation


CHINCHINA, Colombia Nov 27 (Reuters) – Colombia’s coffee farmers must reduce production costs and increase the quality of their beans next year if they want to assure profitability, the head of the National Federation of Coffee Growers said.

Growers in the Andean country, the world’s top producer of washed arabica, have weathered two years of crisis due to low international prices.

For much of 2019, prices on the New York exchange hovered around $1 per lb., sending farmers’ incomes below the cost of production.
