HONOLULU (KHON2) – A coffee roaster went up in flames Monday afternoon at Honolulu Coffee Company.
It happened at around 1:30 p.m. at the corner of Kapiolani Boulevard and Kalakaua Avenue.
The normally busy intersection was closed for about half an hour because of the fire. Kalakaua Avenue was reopened just before 2:15 p.m.
“[We had] reports of smoke in the business and also on the roof. We also had flames visible coming from a vent from their coffee roaster,” said Honolulu Fire Department Captain Keoki Kaalele.
“The employees let [the firefighters] know it was a coffee roaster that was overheating. We utilized a hose to put down the vent from the roof to go ahead and put the fire under control, get it extinguished and also cool down their piping,” he added.
