CHANDLER, Ariz. (FOX 10) — A Chandler coffee shop stepping up to help a family recovering from a distracted driving crash.
The family of four was rear-ended a week ago, and the couple’s 10-year-old child was released from the hospital on Thursday.
The couple owns a coffee truck, and when their friends at Peixoto Coffee heard about the accident, they wanted to help. On Thursday, they held a “Coffee Mocktail Happy Hour” to raise money, and named some of the drinks after the family.
“I sent out an email to my employees, asking them let’s show this family who is hurting what family is all about,” said Julia Peixoto with Peixoto Coffee.
In the crash, Mark and Becky Housholders’ 10-year-old daughter, Kira, suffered the most injuries. She suffered a skull fracture, as well as a loss of movement on the ride side of her body. After the Peixoto heard of the news, she knew she had to help.
“When something like this, a tragedy like this happens, then we have an obligation to come together as a family to support our brothers and sisters and extended family in the best possible way,” said Peixoto.
And for that, Kira’s father is grateful.
“It’s heartwarming for sure to see the amount of love that they can help share with my family, with my daughter, it’s pretty incredible,” said Mark.
Kira will now seek outpatient physical therapy to overcome a few challenges, but Mark says he’s impressed by his daughter’s spirit.
