Sessions Give Extra "Boost" to Convention Programming

The NCA Annual Convention 2014 program showcases two sessions that spotlight coffee as a way to boost health and enhance your life.

Coffee and Liver Health: A Growing Nexus

Presented by: Dr. Morris Sherman

Chairman, Canadian Liver Foundation

Study after study has identified a measurable protective effect of coffee on liver inflammation and related diseases. Among them, evidence shows that coffee reduces the impact of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which affects 20 to 25% of adults, as well as hepatitis C-related damage, cirrhosis, and liver cancer. In this session, the Chairman of the Canadian Liver Foundation will explore the positive associations between coffee and liver health. This session was organized by the NCA Scientific Advisory Group, a highly respected, standing NCA committee that supports NCA’s exclusive Scientific Affairs program.

“Perfect Coffee at Home”
Building on the tradition of its highly successful Coffee Delivers! campaign, the NCA has expanded communications to focus on coffee’s healthful role in enhancing daily life. Through a novel, online coffeehouse experience at www.MyVirtualCoffehouse.com, social media outreach and mobile app CoffeeAndMe, the campaign spotlights coffee’s cultural, social, leisure, health and lifestyle attributes with informative and interactive features including chat, recipe and photo sharing, contests, and original music posting.
Learn more in this multi-media presentation and meet the campaign’s new spokespersons, Michael Haft and Harrison Suarez, recently deployed marines who found coffee to be the battlefield’s connecting force of comfort, relaxation and camaraderie, and a reminder of home and normalcy.
As an added bonus, a trivia game will be played at the end of this session. Attendees will tweet their answers to the NCA Twitter page using a special hashtag. The first person to tweet the correct answer will win a $100 American Express MyVirtualCoffeehouse gift card.
Session: Friday, March 21, 2:00pm – 2:50pm in Lafayette West

The entire educational program schedule can be found on the NCA Annual Convention 2014 home page and in the Detailed Program.
