S&D Coffee & Tea has announced its participation in the “Sourcing Sustainable Coffee” Collective Action Network, part of the Sustainable Coffee Challenge. This Network encourages collaboration that will significantly advance the progress toward sustainable coffee production.
Under the Sustainable Coffee Challenge, S&D Coffee & Tea has committed to support the production of 150 million pounds of sustainable coffee — with the goal of making coffee the first sustainable agricultural product. The Sourcing Sustainable Coffee Network will focus on exchanging experiences that make these commitments possible, including hardware, and look at alternative methods for certification and verification.
“As one of the first five companies to join the Sustainable Coffee Challenge, as well as our current role on the Challenge’s advisory board, our participation in the Sourcing Sustainable Coffee Collective Action Network is the next step in our commitment to the important goal of the Challenge,” said David Piza, director of corporate social responsibility and sustainability with S&D Coffee & Tea. “Working in collaboration with industry partners, we seek to share insights that will result in measurable progress toward sustainable developments for the coffee industry.”
Sourcing Sustainable Coffee is one of the four initial Collective Action Networks that look to expand upon the individual work of Challenge partners. The other three Networks are:
• Meeting Global Coffee Farm Renovation and Rehabilitation Needs
• Improving Labor Supply and Conditions
• Mapping + Monitoring Coffee and Forests
