Chefs’ Creative Menu Applications Using #1 Branded Hazelnut Spread Win Cash Prizes and Featured on Nutella Foodservice Website.

May 8, 2013—Ferrero, the maker of America’s top branded hazelnut spread, Nutella®, announces the three winning professional chefs of the “Wake Up Breakfast With Nutella” recipe contest:

–       Grand Prize Winner ($3,000): Chef Jon Stokes, Culinary Academy of Las Vegas

  • Nutella®-Filled Streusel Baked Mini Coffee Cakes

–       1st Prize Winner ($2,000): Chef Michael Watz, Washburne Culinary Institute

  • Nutella® Breakfast Berry Crostini

–       2nd Prize Winner ($1,000): Chef Rick Browne, Sportman’s Bar & Grill

  • Nutella®-Bacon-Banana Waffle Sandwich

Foodservice chefs were encouraged to submit a delicious breakfast or morning snack using Nutella. Contest requirements included the dish containing a minimum of 8 oz. of Nutella, being 100% original and providing a detailed recipe with a list of ingredients and step-by-step instructions.

“I love to bake, and it was easy to incorporate Nutella into my recipe since I’m such a long-time fan,” said Chef Stokes, who first discovered Nutella when he worked in Europe. He enjoyed eating it for breakfast on croissants and freshly baked bread. After returning to the United States, he was happy to find it in the local grocery store so his children grew up eating it.

Nutella hazelnut spread fits perfectly on foodservice menus—from parfaits and breakfast pizza to French toast, waffles, crêpes and more. The unique flavor of Nutella sets menus apart for breakfast and beyond. Nutella is available in three convenient sizes for professional chefs: the new 6.6 lb. container, 26.5 oz. jar and 0.52 oz. single-serve packet.
