(New York) May, 13, 2014 – Dave Petrillo and Dave Jackson, two mechanical engineers and childhood friends from Pennington, New Jersey, have created a product called Coffee Joulies that keeps coffee at the perfect temperature.
“I was tired of burning my mouth on coffee that was too hot or waiting around for coffee to cool down, only to find that I missed my short window of opportunity and had to settle for cold coffee,” said Petrillo. “Serving coffee at a lower temperature or cooling it down some other way from the start is great if you want to save your mouth, but I still think that it gets too cold too fast. Using Joulies solves both problems at once.”
Each individual Joulie is made with a stainless-steel shell, which contains phase change material (PCM) that absorbs the heat from the coffee and releases it to regulate the temperature. The PCM is non-toxic and edible, guaranteeing that Joulies are completely safe as a product. By using one Joulie for every four ounces of liquid, a scalding cup of coffee will reach a drinkable temperature of 140 degrees within minutes and stay that way for twice as long.
Joulies were made with coffee in mind, but you can use them in anything that your heart desires, such as tea, hot chocolate, and even soup. A set of 5 Joulies are sold for $59.95. The perfection pack, sold for $89.95, comes with five Joulies and a vacuum insulated Thermos Sipp that can keep liquids hot for up to five hours, ensuring that you get the most out of your Joulies experience.
“When I first saw this, I thought for sure it was a belated April Fool’s joke,” said Emma Christensen, recipe editor at theKitchn. “Over-sized metal coffee beans that can keep your coffee at perfect temperature for hours without reheating? Yeah, right. But believe it or not, these magic beans are real.”
Coffee Joulies, created by Dave Petrillo and Dave Jackson, launched on Kickstarter in 2011 as a widely successful crowdfunding campaign that reached over 32 times of its starting goal. Since then, Coffee Joulies has won the grand prize of Shopify’s Build-a-Business Contest and has been featured on Popular Science, Wired, The New York Times, FOX News, and ABC’s Shark Tank. All Coffee Joulies are made exclusively in the United States.
