Champions rely on MAHLKÖNIG

The new Barista World Champion 2013 has just been crowned: Pete Licata from the United States. The beans for his winning coffee creation were ground by a MAHLKÖNIG K30 TWIN.

Tension filled the air for three days in Australia’s metropolis Melbourne, where this year’s World Barista Championships were held. A total of 51 national Barista Champions had come together to find the very best among them. During the two days of qualifiers, countless espressi, cappucchini and signature drinks were brewed.

On Sunday, May 26, six finalists stood on the stage to compete for the much coveted title of Barista World Champion. Five of the six contestants worked with coffee grinders manufactured by Hemro Group – two used Anfim grinders, and three started with MAHLKÖNIG. One of these was the now freshly crowned Champion Pete Licata. This was renewed proof of the fact that the MAHLKÖNIG grinders manufactured in Hamburg, Germany, are the best possible tool for the world’s top baristi. Pete Licata had placed a close second behind winner Alejandro Mendez of El Salvador during the 2011 World Championships. This year he improved his technique even further, and left behind his competitors representing Italy, Australia, New Zealand, El Salvador and Ireland.
