Leading Chefs To Participate In the 2013 Vitamix Challenge

Six professional chefs to compete for title and Vitamix machines in innovative blending contest

CLEVELAND –Top chefs from across the country will soon compete in the ultimate blending contest—the 2013 Vitamix Challenge—October 1 at the StarChefs.com International Chefs Congress in New York City. During this unique gastronomic challenge, six contestants will each use their own ingredients to create a signature dish that utilizes a Vitamix blender in unusual and innovative ways.

Participating chefs will have 60 minutes to prepare a single dish that showcases their originality, creativity and blending techniques to judges, in an attempt to win a full professional kitchen package from Vitamix and the coveted title of Vitamix Challenge Champion.

Hundreds of chefs submitted their own, original Vitamix recipes, in the hopes of participating in the 2013 Vitamix Challenge. The six chefs selected to compete in this year’s event include:

  • Jonathon Cichon – Chef, Lacroix at the Rittenhouse, Philadelphia, PA
  • RJ Cooper – Chef, Rogue 24, Washington, D.C.
  • Joel Gonzalez – Executive Pastry Chef, JW Marriott Las Vegas Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, NV
  • Evan Hennessey – Chef, Stages at One Washington, Dover, NH
  • Mauro Rossi – Chef Instructor, The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of California, Hollywood, CA
  • Josh Watkins – Executive Chef, Carillon, Austin, TX

Competition judges include celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito, Now Eat This! author and television personality, April Bloomfield of Spotted Pig and The Breslin, Daniel Holzman of The Meatball Shop, and Richard Martin, Foodrepublic.com editorial director. Judges will award points based on the unique use of a Vitamix, taste and overall dish presentation.

The grand prize winner of the Vitamix Challenge will be awarded the ultimate Vitamix package containing a Vita-Prep® 3, a Vitamix® XL™, The Quiet One®, plus a $500 American Express gift card. All six chefs will receive a $500 Travel Certificate for travel to New York City, a three-day Industry Pass to attend the StarChefs.com International Chefs Congress and an exclusive Vitamix travel bag.
