Specialty coffee: Cup of Excellence auction has record amounts in brazilian reais

Total revenue was R$ 1.401 million, exceeding the amount of 2010;average price reached R$ 4,258 per bag,above the 2014 record

The auction of the 22 batches of coffee winners of The Cup of Excellence – Pulped Naturals 2015 was held via internet on December 1, and brought two record highs in the conversion of prices into reais. Total collection was R$ 1,401,248.44 ( US$ 363,488.57), exceeding the previous record ( 2010), when R$ 1.239 million circulated, and the average price stood at R$ 4,257.99 ( US$ 8.35 per pound) per 60 kg bag, higher than the R$ 3,863.44 recorded in 2014.
The trading floor is the final stage of the Cup of Excellence – Pulped Naturals 2015, the main quality contest in Brazil aimed at peeled and/or pulped cherry coffee beans, which is organized by the brazilian Specialty Coffee Association ( BSCA) in partnership with the Brazilian Agency for Export and Investment Promotion ( Apex-Brazil) and the Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE), with the support of the Brazilian Support Service for Micro and Small Enterprises (SEBRAE).
All products offerec were sold, with a highlight for the contest champion, who received the highest bid of the auction. The type of coffee produced by Antonio Rigno de Oliveira, in the Sao Judas Tadeu smallholding, in Piatã, Chapada Diamantina, Bahia Plateau, was traded at US$ 45,000.90, yelding US$18.90/lb for each of his 18 bags.
This year, the event had winners of seven producing origins of Brazil: indication of origin from the Mantiqueira Mountains of Minas Gerais; Chapada Diamantina, in the Highlands of the state of Bahia; Indication of Origin from the Pioneering North of the state of Paraná; the mountains of the state of Espirito Santo; the south of Minas Gerais; the forests of the state of Minas Gerais; and the Media Mogiana, in the state of Sao Paulo. The auction fas fullfilled its primary role, which is to show and appreciate the producing origins of Brazilian specialty coffee, encouraging farmers to pursue ever more quality”, said the news chairman of BSCA, Adolfo Henrique Vieira Ferreira.
