United States AeroPress Championship 2021 Results

Hugo Cano of Amberson Coffee in Indianapolis, IN won the 2021 United States AeroPress Championship on September 18th after a night of hot competition. 32 competitors from across the United States, from as far afield as Forth Worth, TX, Washington, DC and New York City, brewed coffee using AeroPress coffee makers for a panel of star judges. The judges agreed that Cano consistently brewed the best-tasting cup. Austin Bowers of Third Wave Coffee took second place and Kyle Sweetland of Redtree Art Gallery and Coffee Shop took third.

Tinker Coffee Co. hosted the event at The Amp in Indianapolis, IN. The beautiful location was enjoyed by around 150 spectators. Spirits were high as they cheered on the competitors and enjoyed a special Spotify playlist curated by Tinker Coffee Co.’s own cafe manager Libby Baert. The coffees were tasted by an illustrious panel of judges including Austin Patterson (Green Buyer at Tinker Coffee Co.), Chris Casassa (Catalyst Trade), and Courtney Thompson (Certain Feelings). The competition coffee was Sedaqa Olonso, an Ethiopian coffee sourced by Catalyst Trade and roasted by Tinker Coffee Co. with notes of lilac, mango and watermelon juice.

Cano won a spot to compete representing the United States in the 2021 World AeroPress Championship to be held in Melbourne in March 2022. National champions will work with a local surrogate barista who’ll brew their recipe for a local judging panel, and the crowning of the 2021 champion will be live-streamed around the world.
