Central Florida Roasters Barnie’s Coffee Still Going Strong After 43 Years

Barnie’s Coffee, founded by Phil Barnie Jones, has experienced significant changes over its 43-year history. The company, which initially expanded nationwide, predating Starbucks by opening multiple locations in malls across the country. However, after changing plans, Barnie’s closed down its mall locations and opened an online store for barniescoffee.com. The brand is now available in supermarket chains like Publix and Winn Dixie, as well as partnering with Central Florida businesses such as Publix, Ten10 Brewery, Se7en Bites, and the University of Central Florida.

Barnie’s also collaborates with colleges in the area, such as Stetson University, Rollins College, and the Orlando Science Center, offering flavored coffee blends that contribute to their food insecurity programs. By purchasing coffee not only at the UCF cafe but also online from Barnie’s Coffee, $1 of the bag goes back to their food insecurity program.

Despite its reach, Barnie’s is a relatively small operation, with its roasting facility only having 13 employees who do everything by hand. The company’s focus on providing flavored coffee without adding sugar, creamers, or whipped cream is evident in its marketing efforts.
