Vashon Island Coffee Dust brings spice to morning cup of joe
If you’re looking for a way to enhance the flavour of your morning cup of coffee, Vashon Island Coffee Dust’s offerings may be just what you’re looking for. Vashon Island Coffee Dust is now conducting a March Madness-style bracket search to discover their newest flavour.
Christy Clement, an islander, began operating the business in May 2021. Currently, the company offers six different spice blends for flavouring coffee without the use of sweeteners, which can be added to coffee grounds prior to or after brewing.
Clement, a new coffee drinker and self-described health conscious individual, said she liked the ability to vary her morning routine but disliked the added sweeteners and additives in many commercial coffee flavourings.
Submissions for Coffee Dust’s seventh and newest flavour have been received; they will be placed in a bracket to determine the new flavour. The winner will receive a complimentary sampler pack of the original Coffee Dust flavours, the very first packet of the new Coffee Dust flavour, and naming rights to the new flavour.
As the flavour tournament progresses, individuals can vote for their favourite flavours on the business’s Instagram page, @vashoncoffedust. In late April, the newest flavour will be available for purchase.
Clement began selling Coffee Dust at the Vashon Farmer’s Market but has since expanded his offerings. Vashon Island Coffee Dust is currently available at Vashon Island Baking Company, Anu Rana’s, Maven Meals, Handmade on Vashon, and a variety of other retailers nationwide.
All Coffee Dust flavours are created on-island in the commercial kitchen of the Vashon Senior Center, with the assistance of Kim Roeser and Danny Kopsak. Additionally, Vashon Island Coffee Dust donates 10% of its profits to Vashon HouseHold, as Clement is “extremely passionate about affordable housing” and serves on the organization’s board of directors.
