Big Shoulders Coffee Hosting Roasters Workshop and Cupping Events for Specialty Coffee Expo in April

Big Shoulders Coffee is set to host a Roasters Workshop and a special Cupping Event and Closing Celebration for this year’s Specialty Coffee Expo from April 12-14. The Roasters Workshop will take place on April 11 at 6 p.m., while the Cupping Event and Closing Celebration will take place on April 14 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Both events will be held at Big Shoulders’ Roastery in Pilsen. The Roasters Workshop is part of a monthly series that pits guest roasters against each other to develop a small batch of coffee. The goal is to demystify the roasting process and learn from the coffee artisans about process, technique, and interpreting an unknown coffee.

Top roasters from across the country will participate in the workshop, with each having ten minutes to interpret and roast their coffee. After 48 hours, they will be invited back for a special cupping, voting, and Closing Celebration. The Cupping Event will provide insights from the roasters on flavor profiles and their expectations before and after cupping. Winning roasters will be invited back to compete at the next month’s challenge, and the highest scored roast recipe will be sold via www.bigshoulderscoffee.com. A portion of the proceeds from the series of workshops will be donated to the Pilsen Food Pantry.
