It started with an unwanted java chocolate chip Frappuccino. Barely passing as coffee, the sweet mixture — consisting of chocolate sauce, chocolate chips, coffee, milk and ice, topped with whipped cream — was gifted to David Hines after a drink mix up.
Caffeine was nothing new to him, consuming daily energy drinks, but coffee was uncharted territory.
“It starts so many people down that avenue. That’s the gateway for coffee,” Hines said.
Five years later, Hines is opening Huya Craft Coffee with his wife and business partner Shayna Hines, along with Kily and Grant LaGarde, set to open mid-July. Huya Craft Coffee will be a blend of coffee shop and science class.
