Taranaki coffee named top organic brew
A coffee roaster from Taranaki has received a national organic food award.
At Organics Aotearoa’s annual awards, IncaFé Coffee was named organic beverage of the year.
“It’s huge; we’re utterly enthralled with it. Especially when it was a popular vote. “The public selected us,” said co-owner Carmen Castro-Verbeek.
IncaFé Organic Coffee Roasters has been roasting coffee in the Waiwhakaiho district of New Plymouth since 2007.
The medal was presented at an awards ceremony on Saturday, which marked the end of Organics Week, which ran from September 11 to 19.
The prize for any organic beverage, which included coffee, tea, wine, and juices, was one of six given out that night.
Along with Kokoko Coffee and Lothlorien Wines, IncaFé Coffee was a finalist.
“We’ve been devoted to being a sustainable business since day one,” Castro-Verbeek said, adding that the company is BioGro organically certified and Fairtrade certified.
“In addition, our roastery is Toitu Carbonzero certified, which means we track and offset all of our emissions, primarily through the planting of native trees in New Zealand.”
IncaFé won the Environmental Excellence Award at the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce’s 2020 Excellence Business Awards last year.
