Gregorys Coffee Is A Plant-Based Mecca

Convenience is the only characteristic of the food and beverage industry that feels uniquely American. The ability to obtain food quickly and easily has resonated with Americans for generations and will undoubtedly continue to do so in the future.

However, there is a counterargument that has grown concurrently with the quick service restaurant industry: nutrition and quality. You desire a bacon, egg, and cheese (BEC) sandwich on the way to work? Easy. Choosing a fruit smoothie without added sugar or granola made in-house over organic yogurt? Not particularly, especially if you reside outside of major cities. And good luck if you’re vegan or otherwise attempting to consume fewer animal products.

In recent years, major coffee chains such as Dunkin’ Donuts and Starbucks have experimented with plant-based meat alternatives, but Gregorys Coffee arguably has the most passion for healthy, plant-based options.

The company, which was founded in 2006 by Gregory Zamfotis with the assistance of his father, a veteran of the New York City food industry, now has 38 locations in the tri-state area and Washington, D.C. Its menu is a sort of greatest hits of the 21st century’s preeminent quick service beverage chains, with classic espresso and matcha drinks as well as fun, novel seasonal drinks and health foodie favorites such as turmeric lattes and green juice. Their menu includes baked goods, overnight oats, and traditional breakfast sandwiches made with both traditional ingredients and – yes – plant-based alternatives.
