David Ortiz goes from Hall of Fame to coffee roaster thanks to Tampa coffee shop
One hundred percent of the proceeds from David Ortiz’s new Big Papi Blend, which will be available at all Kahwa Coffee locations, will benefit children in the Dominican Republic and Boston who cannot afford critical medical services.
David Ortiz, aka Big Papi, has already had an incredible year. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame and then debuted his brand new coffee blend in Tampa Bay. And children now have an additional reason to cheer for him, as the proceeds from this coffee will benefit them.
“Hey there, remember that every time you purchase a bag of Kahwa Coffee, you are saving a life, so let’s go,” Ortiz said in a recent video promotion.
Ortiz went from Hall of Famer to coffee roaster in an instant. This is not the first time Kahwa Coffee has combined America’s favourite pastime and beverage.
“The entire saga began with Evan Longoria. We collaborated on a Number Three Blend with Evan six years ago while he was still with the Rays,” Perrier explained.
Ortiz approached Kahwa about creating his own blend, Big Papi Blend, after learning about Longoria’s.
“He was very invested in creating the coffee; we discussed creating something that was close to his home town, the Dominican Republic, and involving him in tasting, appreciating, and truly stamping it,” Perrier explained.
The home run is that 100 percent of the proceeds from each bag sold benefit the David Ortiz Children’s Fund, which provides critical assistance to children in the Dominican Republic and Boston who cannot afford critical medical services.
“Like Big Papi said, each bag you purchase changes a life, and that is what it is all about; you have no idea how much that means to them,” Perrier explained.
