On average, Americans drink two cups of coffee a day. You may be looking for innovative ways to get your regular java dose, in addition to your morning cup, now that more of us are brewing at home instead of picking up a cup at a coffee shop. Coffee intake (both normal and decaf) has been shown in some studies to help minimise the risk of stroke, heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, so there’s no need to avoid it as an ingredient. Here are six creative ways to enjoy coffee without using a mug.
1. Ice cubes made from coffee
Don’t pour the rest of the coffee down the drain if you didn’t finish the whole cup! Allow the coffee to cool to room temperature before pouring it into an ice cube tray. You may use coffee cubes to keep your cold brew or iced coffee cold without watering it down after they’ve been frozen. Coffee cubes can also be added to any smoothie, such as this Energy Duo Smoothie Bowl, which is ideal for an early morning workout.
2. Oats with coffee flavour
Since mornings in my house are so hectic, I devised a recipe that satisfies my caffeine craving while also providing a filling breakfast. This recipe for Cold Brew Overnight Oats is simple to make and will keep you energised all morning. To avoid a late-morning crash, it’s well-balanced with healthy fats and protein. You can also make any bowl of oatmeal more exciting by substituting coffee for half of the water. To make one serving of oatmeal, for example, bring 12 cup water and 12 cup coffee to a boil, then whisk in 12 cup rolled or fast cooking oats. Reduce the heat to mild and cook until the sauce has thickened.
3. muffins with a coffee flavour
Muffins and fast breads are extremely common because they are simple to prepare (no fussy crusts) and flexible. Try adding 1 to 2 teaspoons of brewed coffee to the mixture before baking the next time you’re trying to use up mushy bananas in banana bread. While there isn’t enough coffee to have much caffeine, there is enough to improve the flavour of your loaf or muffins and make them go perfectly with your afternoon coffee fix.
