Car crashes into downtown Halifax coffee shop

On Sunday morning, police were called to downtown Halifax after a car drove off the road and crashed into the stairs of a popular coffee shop.

Officers were told that a car had impacted the railing and stairs at the entrance to a neighbourhood coffee shop on South Park Street at 8:20 a.m., according to police.

When a second car approached the junction from Victoria Road, police say the driver had the right-of-way and was driving south down South Park Street.

According to authorities, it led the driver who had the right-of-way to swerve to prevent a collision.

“As a result of the evasive manoeuvre, the car with the right-of-way collided with the coffee shop’s steps, causing minor damage to the building’s railing,” according to the press statement.

There were no injuries, according to police, and the driver of the second vehicle, which was not the one that hit the railing, was issued a ticket for failing to yield to a vehicle already in the intersection.
