Colorado-made instant coffee launched into space

First Ascent Coffee is a Crested Butte-based roastery that specializes in outdoor-friendly instant coffee.

Wednesday, a SpaceX rocket carrying 250 servings of instant coffee was launched toward the International Space Station. Crested Butte-based First Ascent Coffee produced this product.

The roastery specializes in producing high-quality instant coffee packets for outdoor excursions.

Wednesday at 10 a.m., the SpaceX and NASA Crew-5 mission successfully launched from the Kennedy Space Station in Florida. Thursday afternoon, the rocket is expected to arrive at the International Space Station.

According to the Denver Gazette, NASA first reached out to the company nearly a year ago. They submitted samples, and eventually the agency placed an order.

The coffee on the rocket is their Dawn Patrol coffee, a dark roast blend available in single-serve or bulk instant packets.
