Irish coffee shop introduces contactless payment cups

Customers of Ireland’s Bear Market coffee shop can now pay for their beverages and earn rewards through the use of a contactless payment and loyalty chip embedded in the outlet’s reusable coffee cups.

The keep cups will initially be available at Bear Market’s Dublin location, with plans to expand the initiative across the company’s branches in the coming months.

The chip, developed by LoyLap, is embedded within the reusable cup’s silicone sleeve, transforming it into a functional payment device. A critical component of the initiative is LoyLap’s integrated loyalty system, which is integrated into Bear Market Coffee’s custom-branded app and allows the coffee shop to directly reward repeat customers.

Conor O’Toole, founder and chief technology officer of LoyLap, comments: “The last eighteen months have accelerated our economy’s digitisation, and we are rapidly evolving into a cashless society.” The contactless keep cup will appeal to consumers seeking a modern transaction experience while also encouraging environmentally conscious behaviour.”
