Coffee trends for 2022: Oat milk, milk taps, and a pricier pour?

Without a doubt, it’s been a difficult year in cafe hospitality, with rolling restrictions and many 9 to 5ers opting for a stay-at-home plunger bag.

However, trends do not wait for global pandemics to pass, and changes are brewing in your neighbourhood brew.

Due to environmental concerns, cafe owners estimate that between one in five and one in three Kiwi coffee drinkers are now asking for oat milk. More cafes are installing refillable milk faucets in order to eliminate the need for plastic bottles.

The bad news is that severe frosts earlier this year in Brazil, the world’s largest coffee producer, destroyed large amounts of crops. Coffee producers are still assessing the full extent of the damage, but prices are expected to rise globally.
