Why Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, Appeared as an Extra in a Coffee Ad

Meghan Markle, a former “Suits” star and investor, has been an advocate for the female-led Clevr Blends coffee company since 2020. In an Instagram ad, Markle is seen packaging coffee, typing at an office computer, digging through a refrigerator, and carrying company products. The ad highlights the importance of supporting female founders, sustainable sourcing, and food justice.

Markle has been vocal about supporting female entrepreneurs for years, and the appearance wasn’t an acting gig. In December 2020, Meghan said she was proud to invest in Hannah Mendoza’s commitment to sourcing ethical ingredients and creating a product that she personally loves and has a holistic approach to wellness.

In February, Mendoza shared her company’s success story on social media, crediting Markle with taking the startup from a DIY coffee stand to an Oprah-approved brand that had sold more than 6 million lattes. Many social media users have commented on Markle’s cameo, but she has been vocal about supporting female entrepreneurs for years.

Meghan and Prince Harry’s kids are also concerned about the idea of their children using social media one day. In a statement to Fortune in December 2020, Meghan said she was proud to invest in Hannah’s commitment to sourcing ethical ingredients and creating a product that she personally loves and has a holistic approach to wellness.
