Costa Coffee is to cut up to 1,650 jobs in its cafes – more than one in 10 of its workforce, as it said trading remained challenging during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The new, smaller 8oz serve joins the existing cup family, and with the coffee chain knocking 25p off the price for those who bring a reusable cup, the total cost could be as little as £1.41.
Costa is growing worldwide, and as a total coffee company, Costa is providing customers the chance to enjoy a Costa coffee, whatever the occasion, whether that’s in-store, via a Costa Express machine or at-home or on-the-go.
Costa Coffee customers are rejoicing today after the cafe giant reopened 2,000 of its stores.
The retailer announced 1,100 of its 2,700 branches will reopen for takeaway and delivery customers within the next two weeks, after nearly three months of closure. Some shops in certain locations have already reopened.
In a statement made at the time, chief executive of Costa Jill McDonald said: “I want to take this opportunity to thank our store teams, who during a lot of uncertainty over the past few weeks have continued to provide a warm and welcoming environment, and great service to our loyal customers.”
Whitbread said in a statement that “the purpose of the rights issue is to ensure that Whitbread emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic in the strongest possible position to take advantage of its long-term structural growth opportunities and win market share in both the United Kingdom and Germany.”
