Producers from COCARIVE win the Cup of Excellence® Naturals 2014 contest and establish new world record in quality
Carmo de Minas, MG – On January 23, 2015, the winners of the Cup of
Excellence® Naturals 2014 were announced. COCARIVE, which is headquarteredin the Mantiqueira de Minas region, stood out with 11 lots among the 23 finalists,
including the champion.
The great winners were the cooperative growers Sebastião and Antônio
Márcio da Silva, from Sítio Baixadão, located in the municipality of Cristina.
The winning lot obtained the historic score of 95.18 SCAA points,
breaking the world record in the Cup of Excellence for natural coffees.
The sample of this coffee, as well as the others sent by COCARIVE, were
previously identified and selected through the annual quality contest promoted by
the cooperative itself and took place between October 27 and 29, 2014.
According to Ralph de Castro Junqueira, President of COCARIVE “the result from the Cup of Excellence® Naturals 2014 contest once more crowns the efforts of
our region in highlighting the unique attributes that are only found in
Mantiqueira de Minas. The victories in this contest also reflect the efforts of our
cooperative members and the continuous work we have directly with them,
providing support in all steps of the production and commercialization of rare and surprising coffees. To accomplish that, COCARIVE invested in training, in the
structure for processing and warehousing, and in building one of the most modernquality laboratories in Brazil. We have created a marketing department entirely
dedicated to these high quality coffees, generating better opportunities for our
growers through the identification of differentiated buyers in the USA, Europe,
Asia and Oceania and, of course, in our own country”.
COCARIVE is recognized worldwide for its professionalism and dedication to
quality, helping to promote the Mantiqueira de Minas region and bringing more
recognition to Brazil as a producing origin.
Since 2012, all winning lots are from COCARIVE growers. Below is the
