Student-run Dinner Preps Future Hospitality Leaders.
Northwood University Hotel, Restaurant and Resort Management majors plan, execute and host 38th annual gala scholarship fund dinner.
MIDLAND, Mich.—There is nothing better than hands-on experience to get ready for life – and work – in the real world of hotels, restaurants and tourism. That’s why Northwood University students spend nearly a year planning and executing the school’s annual Stafford Memorial Dinner. An executive board of students, many of whom plan to go on to hospitality and event planning careers, handles all the details of the scholarship fundraising dinner. The event gives the students a chance to showcase what they have learned in the Hotel, Restaurant & Resort Management program.
The Stafford Memorial dinner will be held at on March 2, at 5:30 p.m. at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center in Bay City. This is year’s dinner will feature a fun, interactive show where guests will feel like they are on an actual cruise ship. The student executive board worked together to develop this idea and carry the theme throughout the evening’s activities, which include a live pianist and a fruit carving demonstration by Northwood students, as well as a couple’s game show hosted by Scott’s Entertainment Company.
In its 38th year, this event honors the Hospitality Management program founder, William D. Stafford. Stafford was the first chairman of the program at Northwood Institute, which became a university in 1993. He used his expertise from years in the hospitality industry and incorporated his experience into the Northwood curriculum. Proceeds from the dinner will go to the Stafford Memorial Dinner Scholarship Fund which directly benefits students in the Hospitality Management program.
