Casa Brasil Coffees Participates In Central Market’s “Passaporte Brasil” April 24 – May 7.
Casa Brasil Bringing Award-Winning Brazilian Coffee Producers to Host Educational Sessions.
(AUSTIN, TX – April 2, 2013) Casa Brasil Coffees, the Austin-based coffee company that sources, imports and roasts beans exclusively from artisanal growers in Brazil, is a proud participant in Central Market’s first “Passaporte Brasil,” a multi-faceted celebration of the South American country’s variety of cuisines, desserts, wine, coffee and culture. Because of Casa Brasil’s expertise and relationships with some of the most reputable growers in the country, Casa Brasil founder Joel Shuler has lined up three Brazilian producer-partners who will co-host educational classes, tastings and demos at all eight Central Market locations in Texas (exception of Preston Road/Dallas). Opened in 2005, Casa Brasil Coffees is the first United States coffee company to focus on directly trading and offering gourmet Brazilian beans from seed to cup. Shuler, fluent in Portuguese, will travel to each location with his farm partners to share more on production cycle in Brazil all the way to roasting in Austin. The three featured coffee producers include:
- Afranio and Maria Selma Paiva join from Fazenda Recanto, a 432-acre Rainforest Alliance competition winning farm outside of Machado, Minas Gerais. Their Yellow Bourbon coffees have become the coffee of choice for some of the world’s top espresso blends.
- Eduardo Noguiera and son Eduardo have been growing coffee outside of Tres Pontas, Minas Gerais since the end of 19th century. For three generations, the family has maintained a stellar reputation for consistent quality and social and environmental responsibility. Nogueiras can be found on Fazenda Capetinga, a Rainforest Alliance and Fair Trade certified farm.
- Owner and agronomist Diogo Dias has established his farm, Fazenda Recreio, as one of the most consistently great coffee farms in Brazil, producing wonderfully citric and sweet coffees year after year. Fazenda Recreio coffee has placed in the top 5 in the Cup of Excellence competition five of the last ten years.
“Joel’s passion for Brazil and vast coffee knowledge, especially in the region, make Casa Brasil a must-have in this culinary and cultural celebration,” said David Leuthold, Business Development Manager of Central Market Specialty Foods. “Obviously, we believe in his product, and it’s a special treat for our customers to be able to interact with Joel and his Brazilian producer partners.”
