RealCup launches recyclable capsule, focuses on zero-waste solutions

Given the growing popularity of single-serve coffee and tea (sales have tripled since 2011), there is increasing need to address the amount of waste that accumulates from discarded K-cups. RealCup is making a long-term commitment to produce 100 percent “zero waste” capsules, and today introduced its latest step toward this goal: EcoCup. EcoCup is the first capsule with a clear lid that can be removed for a more efficient recycling process. To recycle the EcoCup capsule, consumers simply pull off the top with an easy-to-use tab, recycle the cup and dispose of the tea and the filter. The EcoCup capsule is BPA-free and accepted in many curbside-recycling programs across the country. EcoCup capsules are designed for use with K-Cup compatible single-serve brewers.

EcoCup capsules will initially be available for premium loose-leaf tea brands, including Higgins & Burke and Numi. Capsules with single-serve coffee brands, including Marley Coffee, will be available in 2015.  As RealCup single-serve capsules were developed by Mother Parkers Tea & Coffee, the fourth largest coffee label in North America, the innovation behind EcoCup has the scale to make a huge environmental impact.
