S&D Coffee & Tea’s Newkirk Appointed to Coffee Quality Institute Board
Kyle Newkirk, vice president of global sourcing for S&D Coffee & Tea, has been appointed to the Coffee Quality Institute (CQI) Board of Trustees. Newkirk brings more than 20 years of experience in global commodities and supply chain optimization to the role.
As a board member, Newkirk will help to guide the strategic direction of the organization, maintain its quality standards and spread the global platform of its certification programs, such as Licensed Q Graders—qualified, vetted and professionally trained cuppers accredited by CQI.
CQI also focuses on development projects at origin, driving coffee quality enhancements at the farm level so producers can increase their income by improving their product. Newkirk’s international development background and expertise are ideally suited for supporting CQI with enriching this programming.
“I am thrilled to join the CQI Board and work alongside my peers to promote the common language of coffee quality in an effort to improve collaboration across nations and increase opportunities for producers,” said Newkirk. “This position also provides me with a new perspective on what’s trending in coffee, and I hope to leverage that information in my work in supply chain and product development at S&D.”
Newkirk joined S&D in 2012, bringing experience in commodities and sustainable sourcing from previous positions at The Hershey Company and General Mills. As vice president of global sourcing, he is responsible for commodities procurement and quality systems, risk management, raw material sourcing and contract manufacturing, as well as strategic leadership over sustainable supply chain programming.
