Bolaven Farms Coffee to Make Debut at Seattle Specialty Coffee Conference

Bolaven FarmsGRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – April 6, 2015 – Bolaven Farms®, a grower and full supply-chain manager of fine Bolaven coffees, announced today it will debut its fine Robusta at the 27th Specialty Coffee Association of America Convention April 9-12 in Seattle.

The introduction of a fine Robusta provides more than a unique flavor for the coffee trades; it amplifies the Bolaven Farms® mission of sowing the seeds of hope. Bolaven Farms®, already a recognized specialty Arabica producer, implemented the very same precision and attention to its fine Robusta, hoping to transform the longstanding harsh reputation of the bean – one that is harvested by one-third of farmers worldwide.

“When the commonly offensive Robusta are given the same dignified protocols as the celebrated specialty Arabica, sustainable supply and demand for fine Robusta is achievable,” said Sam Say, Bolaven Farms® Founder. “What we have discovered is a superb bean that is likely a positive change agent for the Robusta growing communities.”

The Bolaven® fine Robusta has already received praise from industry experts Bob Yellin and Jim Schulman. The pair of CoffeeCuppers.com critics awarded the Robusta a score of 84.6 and 83.8 respectively using the strict SCAA cupping protocol. Robusta scores this high are rarely achieved as the bean is typically known for its offensive pungency and not often consumed in the U.S.

“Bolaven Farms has introduced a sweet, complex, full-bodied and full-flavored Robusta,” said Yellin.

Meanwhile, Bolaven Arabica also performed well earning a score of 87.2 and 86.6 utilizing the same SCAA protocol. The coffee company boasts specialty grade Arabica and now a fine Robusta, opening the doors to a new origin and a sustainable model for community developments.

A purpose-driven coffee company, Bolaven Farms® is rooted in the mission of sowing the seeds of hope. Through its Crop-share Training Program, subsistent farmers are empowered with the toolbox and the training needed to become successful land-owning entrepreneurs. As part of Bolaven Farms’® impactful two-year program, participating farmers receive on-the-job training, crop-sharing and housing.
