Coffee Fest Portland Hosts 2015 Western Region America’s Best Espresso Competition
Seattle, WA (September 8, 2015) – The 75th Coffee Fest trade show for specialty coffee retail and related industries is coming to Oregon Convention Center, October 23-25, 2015. This year America’s Best Espresso Competition features a new judge calibration sponsor: Café Imports. Café Imports, like Coffee Fest, desires to consistently produce an event that remains beyond reproach and to that end will oversee the judging apparatus of the competition. Café Imports joins sponsors Roast magazine, Nuova Simonelli and Rancilio in the production and sponsorship of this exciting competition.
Twenty-eight competing coffee roasters will have 10 minutes each to brew their best espresso shots from one of the four onsite espresso machines. The competitors will square off head to head until the field is paired to 16 contestants, then eight, then the final four and ultimately the 2015 champion will be crowned. Competitors prepare three espressos which are then judged by a select panel of three judges. Each espresso will be judged on three categories including: flavor complexity/balance, mouth feel/appeal/body and after taste/session.
David Heilbrunn, show manager of Coffee Fest, explains, “we have seen this competition conducted around the country twice now and find it thrilling to find the best shot of espresso of the region at each event. In America we love our coffee and espresso is a leap above that. This competition lets roasters and attendees know what the best of the best is and that is what we strive for.” Come be the first to know who has America’s Best Espresso in this region of North America for. The winner will be awarded $2,000, the Championship Trophy and the third of six coveted positions for the 2015/2016 America’s Best Espresso National Championship which will be held in Nashville, TN – February 17-19, 2017.
