Coffee Flour™ Selected to Participate in FoodBytes! Austin Pitch Competition in September

Coffee Flour™, producer of the original coffee cherry flour, was recently selected to compete at the FoodBytes! pitch competition in Austin, TX on September 26, 2017. Hosted by global food and agribusiness bank Rabobank, the FoodBytes! pitch competition will highlight innovative solutions to food system challenges, including byproduct upcycling, farming with artificial intelligence, functional sugars and more.

FoodBytes!, “the discovery platform for food and ag innovation,” was launched by Rabobank with the goal of identifying the most innovative concepts in food and agriculture and matching them with the capital needed to successfully bring them to market. The event aims to provide a platform through which food system entrepreneurs can share knowledge and ideas, gain insight from industry leaders, and compete for funding.

Coffee Flour is one of ten finalists selected to participate in a mentorship boot camp with industry executives, as well as give a 3.5 minute pitch to a panel of expert judges and investors at the competition’s inaugural Austin venue next month. The finalists will also engage with audience questions.

Coffee Flour was selected for its innovative, impact-oriented solution to food waste. The company uses a proprietary method to convert the billions of pounds of coffee cherry fruit discarded each year after the beans are removed by the coffee milling process. The result is a nutrient-dense and distinctly flavorful culinary ingredient that is high in fiber, protein, potassium, calcium, and iron. The company’s business model also provides supplemental income for smallholder farmers and creates additional jobs at local coffee mills, turning what was once agricultural waste and an environmental pollutant into an economic boost to coffee-growing communities around the globe.
