Studio Vural Designs New NYC Cafe, Melding Urban and Rural

Architecture and design firm, Studio Vural has made its name designing high-end espresso bars for specialized coffee roasters: the firm is behind the Long Island City café with soaring ceilings and a midtown roaster that turned low ceilings into design elements. Studio Vural is pleased to announce the opening of its latest work in the heart of Greenwich Village, Irving Farm Coffee Roaster’s eighth location at the corner of West 3rd and Thompson Streets, September 1, 2017.

Adjacent to New York University and rowdy Bleecker Street, the corner location is planned to be one of Irving Farms busiest locations, serving studying students and revelers alike. With that in mind Studio Vural designed the 1200 sf space to comfortably seat over 70 people in a combination of communal tables, leather banquettes and high counters to suit the diverse customers. The location will serve a full coffee and lunch menu, including a newly formulated cold brew coffee released specially for this location.
Studio Vural’s design for the space is intended to meld farm and city, harkening to Irving Farm’s roaster 100 miles north of the city. Irving Farm’s brand is a well-balanced marriage of bare concrete and black stained surfaces with white oak paneling, crowned by industrial light fixtures in a sober, minimalist setting. Studio Vural’s design approach enhances this balance through artful use of forms, materials and lighting that is empowered with a seamless circulation “flow”, a decisive requirement in hospitality design. The material palette harmoniously incorporates black acid stained concrete floors, distressed black walls, rectangular matte black & white wall tiles, exposed I-beam columns and an artisan combination of white oak and walnut paneling. The pendants are by Brendan Ravenhill, sconces by School House Electric, counter fluorescent tubing by Castor Designs.
