Lutheran World Relief Co-Hosts International Coffee Forum in Indonesia

LWR 300 LogoMedan, October 1, 2013 — Lutheran World Relief (LWR), Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR) and Fair Trade USA (FT USA) are co-hosting Temu Kupi Sumatra 2013 – an international coffee forum between September 30 and October 2 in Medan, Indonesia. September 30 and October 1 have consisted of internal meetings with GMCR and the company’s supply chain during the Intercambio portion of the event.
On October 2, LWR will host Temu Kupi Sumatra 2013, an event open to members of the Sumatran coffee supply chain – including producers, cooperatives, representatives from the private sector, government officials and non-governmental organization (NGO) staff – to discuss a variety of topics related to coffee production and learn from others working in the field. Temu Kupi gives participants the opportunity to have an open dialogue on challenges and successes in coffee production in Sumatra.
Throughout the day on October 2, LWR will host sessions on the international coffee market, business negotiations and risk management, the role of NGOs, credit and financing for coffee cooperatives, traceability, environmental considerations, coffee certification and the producers’ perspective on all of these topics. Overall, Temu Kupi aims to provide members of the coffee community a series of engaging and informative discussions on improving coffee production in Sumatra, increasing transparency in the supply chain and tackling complex issues that participants face in their work in this sector.
The event will take place in the Grand Aston City Hall Medan Hotel in Medan, Indonesia. For more information about the event, please visit or contact
