Crimson Cup Brews Seasonal Buzz with New Hopped Holiday Nitro Cold Brew Coffee
Columbus, Ohio coffee roaster Crimson Cup Coffee & Tea is ringing in the season with a new dry-hopped, nitrogen-infused cold brew coffee. New Hopped Holiday Nitro is available for a limited time exclusively at Crimson Cup Coffee House, 4541 North High Street in Clintonville.
“Following the success of the Dry-Hopped Nitro cold brew we introduced in September, our coffee team continued experimenting with different coffees and flavors to brew up a holiday beverage that showcases the flavor of the coffee without a lot of added sugar or flavored syrups,” said Crimson Cup Founder and President Greg Ubert.
To create Hopped Holiday Nitro, the team started by cold brewing Crimson Cup’s exclusive Jorge’s Pick coffee from Guatemala, purchased through the roaster’s Friend2Farmer direct trade program.
After dry hopping with whole-grain Oregon hops and a mixture of citrus peels, cinnamon and other spices, the coffee is finished off with a small amount of milk sugar for an even bigger body and slight sweetness. Baristas dispense the cold brew through the coffee house’s nitrogen tap system to produce a frothy drink with the consistency of a fine stout and the spicy flavors of the Christmas season.
“For this new nitro coffee, we pulled a recipe straight from the pages of craft beer brewing. I wanted to replicate a spiced winter beer with some of the characteristics of a milk stout. After several attempts, we were able to create a coffee that was full of holiday flavors, hops, and a creamier texture,” said Coffee Training Specialist Brandon Bir.
Crimson Cup’s coffee team includes Bir, Coffee Buyer Dave Eldridge and Coffee Quality Technician Chris Shegitz. “We’re continually amazed at the creativity that Brandon, Dave and Chris bring to Crimson Cup,” Ubert said. “Each of them brings a unique perspective and experience to our sourcing, roasting and cold-brew development programs.”
A 20-year veteran of the beverage industry, Eldridge has served both as Crimson Cup’s roast master and as the brew master for a prominent local craft brewery. With over eight years of coffee experience, Bir has visited more than a dozen Central American coffee plantations to source great coffees, create direct farmer relationships and initiate community sustainability initiatives. Five years of home brewing experience have given Shegitz insight into the taste profiles that the right blend of hops can add to a beverage.
Columbus coffee lovers can experience Hopped Holiday Nitro from Nov. 21 through Dec. 31, while supplies last, at Crimson Cup Coffee House, 4541 North High Street in Clintonville.
