ECOTIERRA earnsB Corporation Certification
SHERBROOKE, Quebec (October 15, 2015) – ECOTIERRA is the first Sherbrooke company to receive the international B Corp. Certification ¬– joining a select group of only eight Quebec businesses recognized for their social and environmental impacts.
This respected designation is awarded to companies who meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
Currently comprising 1,442 for-profit companies in 42 countries, B Corporations are committed to making people and the planet a business priority – rather than focusing primarily on profits.
Accorded by the non-profit B Lab, B Corp is to business what LEED certification is to green building and the Organic and Fair Trade certifications are to the food industry. Unlike these one-dimensional certifications, however, B Corporations are required to meet several criteria in evaluating their social and environmental impacts on the people they work with – employees, clients, suppliers, and their communities. B Lab governance ensures that companies meet the highest standards of social responsibility and respect for the environment. They also provide continuing support to companies in order to protect their mission and ensure sustainability over time.
ECOTIERRA is proud to be recognized by B Lab. “Since founding Ecotierra in 2011, our strong social and environmental values have always been at the heart of our decisions and actions,” said President Étienne Desmarais. “It is a great honor to join the growing ranks of B Corporations around the world – working to redefine success in business.”
