GREEN ENGINE COFFEE CO. TO OPEN ON PHILADELPHIA’S MAIN LINE

Haverford, PA – On Wednesday, November 4, local beverage specialist Zach Morris plans to bring an unparalleled coffee experience to the heart of Haverford with the opening of Green Engine Coffee Co., a coffee bar serving freshly brewed artisanal coffee along with a seasonal menu of baked goods and sandwiches.
“Downtown Philadelphia has so many great coffee options, and I’m committed to bringing that level of service along with the finest coffee to the Main Line in a welcoming, laid-back environment at our new cafe,” says Morris, a Philadelphia native and trained sommelier who developed a love of coffee during his years working in the beverage industry. “We’ll focus on making it a comfortable atmosphere for our guests to enjoy a cup of coffee with friends and neighbors.”
Green Engine will serve a selection of coffee and espresso beverages from local favorite, Rival Bros Coffee, a Philadelphia-based, small-batch, custom coffee roaster. Working with top-of-line coffee equipment, including their “Green Engine” – an emerald green La Marzocco GB/5 espresso machine handmade in Florence, Italy and an Oji Kyoto Cold Drip brewer from Japan, Green Engine’s talented baristas will prepare drinks to order, hand-crafting every beverage exactly how the guest prefers. A number of beverages, including local based Premium Steep Tea as well as a variety of juices and sodas will also be available throughout the day. Guests will be encouraged to walk up and order from the friendly, knowledgeable baristas.
To pair with their beverages, guests may enjoy a menu of freshly baked goods as well as a selection of sandwiches prepared in-house. For those looking to take the coffee experience home with them, Green Engine will have 12 oz. bags of Rival Bros beans available for purchase alongside some of the best coffee merchandise recommended using for at-home brewing.
Morris along with the help with his wife Jocelyn, a talented designer, worked together to come up with the design and aesthetic of the coffee bar. White and natural earth tones, the light marble-topped coffee bar and large bay windows looking out onto Haverford Station Road will create a bright, inviting atmosphere in each of the distinct seating areas. Reclaimed dark wood flooring will bring balance to the room’s modern, yet rustic elements including white subway tiles, custom wood tabletops, repurposed church pews and a plush tufted couch. Additionally, a mix of textures will be also be used throughout, most notably on an accent wall that will be covered with a customized 81-square-foot vertical green living wall. WiFi will also be available to guests.
Morris, a graduate of University of Pennsylvania, has a variety of experience within the beverage industry, including four years in sales as a wine importer and distributor. He later earned the title of Director of Education for both The National Wine School and the Philadelphia Beer School, which he held for the past six years. In addition, Morris has been the co-owner of two sustainable businesses – Urban Ecoforms and BioNeighbors, a design-to-build firm specializing in green roofs and walls as well as landscape architecture. Green Engine is truly a passion project for Morris, one he and his family imagined, developed and will operate themselves.
