About Gaggia

Founded in 1938 as Brevetti Gaggia GA at 2 Via Pietro Calvi in Milan, the Gaggia name has lengthy association with the world of Italian espresso. Pioneer Giovanni Achille Gaggia began as a bartender at his family’s coffee bar, Caffe Achille, where he dreamed of a way to improve the taste of espresso and the process used to brew it. After a fated meeting with Antonio Cremonese who shared his vision, Gaggia embarked on a course that would change the way espresso was brewed forever.

Filing a series of patents, first for a steam free compressor for coffee in 1938, and later for a lever action brewing system in 1947, the hallmark of Gaggia’s machines was the natural foamy layer of coffee oils they produced on top of each espresso, also known as crema. In 1948 the Gaggia company was founded, and the rest is history.

About the Anima

In Italian, the word anima means “soul.” The Anima series combines over 75 years of espresso brewing experience into a machine that allows users to rediscover the pleasure of authentic Italian espresso. The elegant styling of the machine features multiple steel details for a design that blends modernity and tradition to outlive fads and trends.

A fully automatic machine that features numerous innovations including a removable brewing group, pre-infusion, and Gaggia’s adapting and Optiaroma systems, the Anima is available in three varieties. The standard Anima features a pannarello style steam wand and retails for $899, while the Anima Deluxe and Anima Prestige are equipped with automatic milk frothing systems and retail for $1,099 and $1,299 respectively.
